Personal reflection and evaluation of the module

Overall this module has been my favourite throughout my entire first year within the media production course. I felt that this module has pushed me in terms of how much I contribute within group environments and allowed me to develop myself as a media producer the most. I believe that this was mostly because of my role, being the role of producer meant that I had a huge responsibility and commitment to the group. This helped me really get involved with every task we created, I worked really hard and often was really stressed but I still enjoyed every minute of it. I’d never put as much time or effort into any other module before this and I am very much looking forward to developing my skills within this field further in my second year. The module has also taught me a lot about team work and how important it is that everyone pulls their weight. Within the production we were reliant on everyone to turn up to rehearsals as everyone had a role that needed to be done in order for the show to work, even though this didn’t always happen as certain people would not turn up we still made it work as a team and did the best with what we could within every rehearsal. This module has helped me develop my professional, organisational, and leadership skills, overall I am happy with the outcome of our TV show, however it was not perfect. If i had the chance to redo this module I would spend more time perfecting and editing the VT’s we produced as they weren’t quite to the standard I would of liked and also spent more time dressing the set. However again these imperfections were due to certain team members not pulling their weight and we had to do the best within the time we could.

The third should reflect on your professional development

As producer I feel I developed my professional skills hugely. Within previous modules I had never had as much responsibility on me as I had with this role. Being producer meant that often I was in charge of the group, assigning roles in regards to the production of the show, organising rehearsals, booking out equipment/ TV studio, and making sure the running of the show was smooth. I believe that I handled all this responsibility well, professionally and created a calm and friendly atmosphere where if needed any team member could ask me for help and I’d try my upmost to resolve the problem. As producer it was my role to create and be apart of the production of the VT’s, I found the dancer/interviewer Jess and it was my role to get her number, keep in contact with her and organise the meeting of creating the VT. I believe this developed my communication and organisational skills in a professional environment. It was also my role to create the set of the show, I believe this helped my professional development as I wanted to create a set that worked. It was also my role to do all of the paper work needed, this meant that all consent forms and assessment forms had to be filled out. This helped my professional development as all the forms used were replicas of real productions paper work, this gave me a huge insight into what it would be like to be apart and in charge of a real production.

Demonstrate an understanding of the specific impact of different media forms and methods of delivery and the effect these have on media production practice

Within our Television production it was very important that we had different media forms such as social media within our show. Social networking and the internet has impacted the way that TV shows and films publicise their products. In the modern world social networking is a major part of both teenagers and young adults lives, because we has used this age group for our target audience it was very important that we incorporated this type of media into our show. Social media has changed the way that TV shows tell their stories and content, with constant referrals to the audience having their say, this is the media’s subliminal way of getting their audience to be active. Upmost it is the main way of getting audience interaction within the show, many TV shows such as “This Morning” want to hear what the public have to say this is why the presenters tell the audience to either Tweet or Facebook their thoughts after one of their stories, often at the end they will then read out some of the comments, this way the audience will develop a much more personal relationship with the show. We wanted to replicate this as much as possible in our show this is why after every story we told our audience to Tweet or Facebook us, we even let the audience decide the activity chosen for the next presenter challenge. It is important to have an active audience and I believe we were successful with creating one.

Demonstrate your engagement with the creative critical process throughout this module and chart the development of one or more of your ideas

One of my main ideas I brought to the group was the VT where we created a ‘Presenter Challenge’. I had previously seen something similar on the TV show “Sweat The Small Stuff” this was also a main point of their show and believed it worked really well and engaged the audience with the presenters and thought we should try and replicate something similar in ours. We did this by having our interviewer and dancer Jess teach the presenters a dance routine it would then be up to our guest to decide who’s video would be chosen creating anticipation for the audience as to what one would be shown. As producer I felt I had a main role in making this happen and getting it to work as I was apart of all the pre-production, production(filming) and post-production(editing) of this task. The main focus was the build up to this VT, we got Peggy to dance to the rocky theme tune in preparation for the challenge and I believe this worked really well in creating the right atmosphere. This was also an idea I got from sweat the small stuff as they also build up to the challenge by having each competitor psych themselves up before competing. We then put our own take on this idea by creating the VT into a dance routine where the audience at home could follow, we did this by including the easier steps from the dance and have a step by step guide written on the screen of the dance movements. Overall I feel this part of the show came out really well and engaged the audience the most as they too could take part.

  • my idea is to do a documentary on both legal and illegal graffiti in London
  • for this production I would travel around London, specifically Southbank and look at all the different types of street art
  • I would also get the general publics opinions on street art and whether they think it should be allowed? do they like it? and whether if there were more places where it was legal would it cut down the crime rate for illegal graffiti?
  • Not only would I interview the general public but also local graffiti artists and see what their opinions are, whether more places like southbank are a good idea or will crime continue as its the risk and danger that attracts people to graffiti.

  • In the research I did for this project I found this documentary exploring something similar to what mine would be
  • My documentary would be closely like this one but more focused on the legal side of it too and whether it would be possible to only allow legal graffiti to happen within London and England, and looking at graffiti as an art itself.

  • I would then focus on the different views on graffiti, how some is seen as art and how some is seen as a crime
  • Banksy would be my main focus for this, how he is known as an artist not a thug and how his painting have made millions by copies being made on postcards, canvas’, greetings cards and many more. Yet other graffiti is seen as vandalism and ugly, and how fair is it to pick and choose when graffiti is art and when it is not.
  • I would want to make the documentary fast paced with cut shots from graffiti to peoples opinions(both graffiti artists and the gerneral publics) to Banksy’s work. I would end the documentary by creating a montage of all the different graffiti shown in the documentary, both legal and illegal and record a voice over to put on top rounding up the points made my the public. Then having my view by saying that I think all graffiti is art and without art all we have is dull grey concrete buildings and that would be a very boring sight.
